An ARC is an Advanced Reader Copy.

ARC's are typically sent out around two weeks prior to public release date. The intent is that ARC readers have enough time to read the book so that on the day of release, they can leave their review on any associated site. This helps authors generate sales by having reviews on their site. Added bonus: a lot of ARC readers post bookish content and are likely to promote your book on their social media pages!
