What is an ARC and why do authors send them to readers?

An ARC is an Advanced Reader Copy.


ARC's are typically sent out around two weeks prior to public release date. The intent is that ARC readers have enough time to read the book so that on the day of release, they can leave their review on any associated site. This helps authors generate sales by having reviews on their site upon releasing. Many ARC readers will also post and promote bookish content on their social media pages to better connect with and grow their following.
